If we don’t raise the minimum wage along with inflation, then those food items and apartments that were once affordable will be unaffordable. The wage we are given for work as minimum wage employees needs to be enough to get us by, that is the entire point! If the government is unwilling to keep up with the inflation around the country, they are not committed to a providing a living wage.

The main problem with increasing wages is that if you increase the minimum wage, companies will just increase their prices. Even if we reduced wages anymore now, the prices may not change. We need to find a balance that would keep prices low, but wages at an acceptable standard. That's the tricky part. If you want to get paid more: Work harder, and you'll be compensated by your employer.

Inflation will only get worse when we increase minimum wage. This country is already in a state of despair and it is important that we combat the inflation situation without making it worse.

People do not get a living wage through laws passed by the government but through the state of the economy, the problem is due to the labor market not to the laws. Raising the minimum wage will just make it more difficult to get a job, force people to work more and cut people from the job market. Setting a minimum wage doesn't change the reality of the economy, private companies just follow the market, they are as greedy as the market let's them to be. That's why engineers have very high salaries and are not paid to a minimum wage because their work has more value and they have… Read more

If you agree that the issue stems from private interests making for-profit decisions over our economy, then the solution should be to abolish that system of organization.

Increasing minimum wage increases the production, distribution and store cost of every product that is purchased. Therefore the product cost will increase for the individual at a higher rate. If one finds they need more money, then it is up to the individual to learn marketable trades to earn more, not the government to force companies to pay more for unskilled labor.
@9GHXBKV7mos7MO
i think maybe raising it a little bit to about 17 or 18 would be okay but not any higher because then everything will continue to stay expensive or even more expensive. i also think that if anything the government should come up with something that won't leave such a negative impact on our country to decrease the costs of everything including houses which are at an all time high including living places.
@9GHX7RQLibertarian7mos7MO
If we raise the minimum wage then it will inherently raise the prices of things causing a neverending cycle.
@9GLRZSLAmerican Solidarity7mos7MO
with minimum wage goes up so does everything else so its not even a good thing the broke are gonna stay broke.
@9GHYCV57mos7MO
Minimum wage should reflect upon the minimum level of cost of living within a city, but only if the person is working 40~60 hours a week. However, it should not be the person's main source of income, since they should be encouraged to either climb up the corporate's ladder or to look for a salaried position.

Employers are not just paying for labour, but paying for the lost life of the employee. Every hour worked is a potential talent not fostered, time not spent with a loved one, personal project untouched, or some other enrichment denied. An argument might be made that not everyone given complete freedom would spend their time in the "best" manner, but that is not for others to decide. Ensuring a person is compensated enough to live the remainder of their life commiserate with what you have taken is the cornerstone of "life liberty and happiness."

I agree with this comment. We also need something in place to keep housing affordable for those who are working full time jobs.
yes, everyone should have equal access to basic needs, by increasing a minimum wage line with inflation rates we allow people to come above the poverty line
@9GHZG3M7mos7MO
i agree, when america was founded the point was for the people, not for the government, military power, or political power. the government should at least help people when they need that help.
@9GHW4347mos7MO
I do agree with this statement. The livable wage needs to be livable, not for the rich but for the middle and lower classes.
@9GHWSLB7mos7MO
If you increase minimum wage it will just make the rich richer and the poor poorer. It will increase inflation and make everything worse.
@IanR97Libertarian7mos7MO
This only compounds current inflation and incentivized companies to pay the minimum to employees, a wage should be agreed upon between employer and business there should not be a minimum wage or government intervention. That’s not to say someone is going to work for 2$ an hour that just wouldn’t fly today, but allows employees to garner a livable wage an negotiate for something more than what that minimum would be.
If it’s raised now we’ll have the same convo in the next 10 years. Why not make the minimum a 100$ an hour?? This is all apart of a bigger need to get the FED and government out of the monetary supply so money is not wasted and a true free market can operate which we currently do not have.
@9GKH5TNIndependent7mos7MO
I thought the minimum wage exists only to support those who pursuit neither family life nor religious life.
